Dr Nagendra
Former NASA Scientist
Consultant Harvard University & Founder of SVYASA Yoga UniversityBorn on Jan 1, 1943, Nagendra is at present the President of VYASA, Bangalore, VYASA, International, VYERTI, Melbourne and Vice Chancellor of SVYASA Deemed University. He has authored and co-authored about 35 books on yoga, nearly 35 research papers in engineering and 60 in yoga. He has awards from the Ministry of Health, a Yoga Sri award from BKS Iyengar and a senior Citizens award from New Delhi. He is consultant in Yoga to many Universities in Australia and USA, member of several bodies in Govt of India.
After graduation, Nagendra got ME and Ph D in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science in 1965 and 1968, researched at University of British Columbia, Canada, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, AL as Post Doctoral Research Associate and at Harvard University Engineering Sciences laboratory as a Consultant between 1969 and 72 and Imperial College of S&T, London before he returned to IISc.
He joined Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, a service mission as an honorary director of training in 1975. Developing yoga and yoga therapy programs for the modern youth and ailing sick with Dr Nagarathna, he spent nearly a decade before shifting his Head Quarters to Bangalore, Prashanti Kutiram to translate the vision of Swami Vivekananda to combine the best of the East with the best of the East by combining modern scientific research to examine the efficacy of yoga to solve the challenges of the modern era.
As the team developed, the campus Prashanti Kutiram took shape, the research papers started getting published in leading main stream journals of the world, VYASA started gaining greater momentum with nearly 70 research publications on yoga, 200 dissertations by students of Certificate and Diploma Courses, acquiring accreditation from DST, Ministry of Health and FW, Dept of AYUSH, UGC recognizing it as one of the premier yoga institutes of the country, recognized by Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore and Rajiv Gandhi Universities from 1991 to 2001, Hindu University of America in 2002 and finally acquiring the status of a Deemed University named Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (Research Foundation) SVYASA for short, offering courses from Certificate to Doctoral programs in Yogic Sciences. So far about 60 M Sc students and one Ph D have graduated from this unique Yoga University, Five Ph D from Bangalore University and one from HUA. At present we have about 100 MSc and 50 Ph D students working with VYASA and SVYASA.

She had published research papers in International and National Journals. As well as written and published books on Yoga & health. Some of the books she had written are Yoga for Common Ailments Dr R Nagarathna, Dr H R Nagendra and Dr Robin Monro, Yoga for Anxiety & Depression Dr R Nagarathna & Dr HR Nagendra etc.
She had also been awarded multiple of awards “Vishweshwaraiah Vijnana Puraskara (2008) for contribution in the field of scientific research in the field Yoga Swadeshi Vijnana Andholana Karnataka. “The Essel Karnataka’s Award” (2007) for Best Medical Service in karnataka by Zee TV Kannada TV and a few other awards.
Today she is the Chief Yoga Therapy Consultant with SVYASA Bangalore.

Dr Alex Hankey, Phd - (M.I.T) Boston

Faculty - MIU, Santa Barbara, CaliforniaDr Hankey was a Scholar of Trinity College, Cambridge, where he gained a Masters in Natural Sciences, specializing in Theoretical Physics. He completed his PhD in the study of critical instabilities and scaling phenomena at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) in Boston, Massachusetts, where his advisers included Professor Steven Weinberg and Professor H. Eugene Stanley, and then spent a year at SLAC, the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. During that post-dctoral year Dr Hankey became a Teacher of the Transcendental Meditation technique of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, following which he helped establish educational and research institutions in the U.S., Europe and the U.K.
Dr Hankey has been working with the Vedic Sciences since 1973, when he joined the faculty of the newly established Maharishi International University in Santa Barbara, California. He first came to India to help organize the World Congress on Maharishi\'s approach to the Vedic sciences (Maharishi\'s Vedic Science) and modern science held in New Delhi in 1980-81. He has worked with Ayurveda, in particular, since 1985.
His interest in Yoga and consciousness is longstanding, and has lead to many interesting breakthroughs.
